Problem Summary

Mwambezi village is located 12 km south-west of Mbala town in Northern Province of Zambia, Africa. This village has no school. School going children have to walk 12 km to attend school. As a result the village hardly has any children reaching grade seven. Lack of education of the people of Mwambezi village perpetuates poverty.

Proposed Solution

Building a Student Hostel at Mbala town close to two primary schools and one secondary school. The hostel will accommodate children from Grade 5 upwards and give them opportunity to attend school all the way upto grade twelve at Mbala town. If the children are closer to schools they will be able to regularly attend classes and have a chance at education and, therefore, improved life.

Student Hostel Project Goals

1. Provide shelter for children attending grade five and up school
2. Provide shelter for youth attending high school
3. Give Mwambezi village children and youth access to secondary school
4. Reduce or eliminate poverty at Mwambezi village through education

Student Hostel Project Activities

• Develop achitectural drawings for the hostel
• Raise funds for student hostel building construction
• Secure all the required building materials
• Secure land at Mbala town for the building
• Identify building contractor

The estimated cost of building the Student Hostel is $100 000.
