Problem Summary
Mwambezi village is located 12 km south of Mbala town. The village is located along Chitimbwa Road stretching over eight kilometers with the end part of the village lying over the Mwambezi Stream watershed. The people of the village draw water from the dam built at the source of Mwambezi Stream. The location of the village poses two major challenges.
First, the people farther down from the stream have to walk at least six kilometers to fetch water - most of these are women carrying water pots on their heads.
Secondly, over time the trees over he watershed have been depleted. Due to depletion of trees up the watershed, there is too much soil erosion that ends up in the stream making the stream water no longer safe. There is urgent need to address the situation and ensure adequate supply of safe water.
The Solution
Erecting a water tank uphill and allowing water to run downhill through a main supply pipeline through the village.

- To bring safe water closer to where the people are
- To ensure safe water supply for everyone in the village
- To save people, especially women, time for fetching water and allow them to focus on other family chores

- Survey the land and identify where to pass the water supply pipeline
- Develop project plan for developing the water supply infrastructure
- Identify contractor for developing the water supply infrastructure
- Conduct fundraising for developing the water supply infrastructure
- Build th esafe water supply infrastructure
Budget
The budget for developing the safewater infrastructure is $50 000.
