CROP INPUT PROGRAM

FOR MWAMBEZI VILLAGE

Imagine working so hard on your piece of land to grow a crop to feed your family. But because your crop has no fertilizer it yields very little or nothing so you end up having no food. This is exactly the case for the people of Mwambezi Village.

But you can make a difference

  • Annual Crop Input Program

    Problem Summary

The people of Mwambezi village call themselves farmers. However, in scientific terms they are peasant or poor farmers.  Becasue they are poor they are not able to meet the cost of inputs such as fertilizer, the major input that goes into growing their staple crop maize. In order to be eligible to buy any input every grower has to be a member of the co-operative, which requires an annual membership fee. Unfortunately not everyone can afford a membership fee and the purchase of crop inputs such as fertilizer. This situation makes some people incapable of growing a decent crop for their consumption, which results in hunger the following year.

    The Solution

A Ntungo Noble Crop Input Program supported by an annual budget allows poor villagers, who cannot afford a co-op membership fee and cost of fertilizer, to become co-op members and to buy fertilizer for their crop. Ntungo Noble sponsors the Co-op membership and pays for their inputs way ahead of the growing season.

    Crop Input Program Goals

    1. Ensure that struggling widows and/or single mothers become members of the co-operative
    2. Pay the co-op membership fee for struggling widows and/or single mothers
    3. Pay for crop inputs for struggling widows and/or single mothers
    4. Ensure every family has a decent crop to subsist on off the growing season

    Program Activities

    • Identify struggling widows and/or single mothers in the village
    • Monitor farming activities by windows and/or single mothers
    • Prepare a report at end of year

    Budget

Currently an annual budget of  $1500 supports the crop input program at Mwambezi village.
